Text
The fifteenth-century Arab polymath al-Suyūṭī transmitted an incantation of Solomon that includes in its list of invoked spiritual entities the name Gilgamesh (jljmyš). This employment of the name in a ritual context derives ultimately from the similar usage of his name in Babylonian incantations. In Maqlû incantation series 1.37-38, Gilgamesh occurs as the lord of your oath (bēl mamītkunu, cf. 4.54).
