Text
In Ugaritic texts on sacrifices, the stress is on the physical quality and integrity of the victims: the animals should be healthy and strong, without deficiencies or abnormalities. This is different from the Biblical tradition, where a distinction is made between ‘pure’ and ‘impure’ animals, but similar to Babylonian practice, which might imply that the originally Canaanite Ugaritic tradition had undergone Babylonian influences in this regard.
