Text
Mesopotamian Proverb:
I am a riding-donkey, but I am attached to the mule: I (have to) support the wagon and bear the (driver’s) stick.

Theognis 257-260:
I am a fine mare, a winner, but a scoundrel’s now my jockey – this it is that pains me most. Many a time I’ve thought of breaking off the bit, throwing my worthless rider, running free.
