Text
Neo-Assyrian Treaties and Loyalty Oaths: I swear by Aššur, Sherua
and all the gods of Assyria, may these gods be our witnesses in the presence of the great gods of heaven and earth. I will keep the oath of this treaty, I will always serve (king and crown-prince) in a true and fitting manner and protect them. I will not do (anything) that is evil and improper to the king. Whoever changes, disregards, transgresses or erases the oaths of this tablet
may Aššur
decree an evil fate for him.
Ibn Abī Uṣaibiˁa, ˁUyūn al-anbāˀ 1 (Hippocratic Oath): I swear by Asklepios and I swear by all Gods saints, male and female, and I call upon all of them as witnesses that I will fulfil this oath and this condition. I will let (my instructor) share in my livelihood. Things that may harm (patients) and do wrong I will avoid to the best of my judgement. He who keeps this oath and does not corrupt it in any way will be praised constantly by all men in future. The opposite applies to him who breaks it.
