Text
The Greek word kanon means both “reed” and “measuring stick”, deriving from Akkadian qanû. The specialized use of the Greek term for measuring stick corresponds to Akkadian qan mindati and Hebrew q’neh hammidah with the same meaning. The appearance of the term in Greek shows that a basic tool and concept of building construction has been imported.
