Text
Syriac Book of Medicines, fol. 224:
They arrange the Seven Governors thus - They say that Kronos, that is to say, Zūkhāl, is above them all in the upper zone of the air, and that he is in the outer circle of the sphere. And he is in every sign of the zodiac for thirty months, and he performs his revolution through the twelve houses in thirty years. After him is placed Zeus, who is surnamed Bēl, who is Mushtari and who is likewise in the zone of the air, and is in the second circle of the sphere. He remains in each house twelve months, and he performs his revolution through all the houses in twelve years. And after him is placed Ares, who is Marīk, and he is in the zone of fire, and is in the third circle of the sphere. He remains in each house one month and a half, and he performs his revolution in one year and a half. And after him is placed the Sun, who is also in the zone of fire, and is in the fourth circle of the sphere. He remains in each house thirty days, and he performs his revolution in a year. And after him is placed Baltī, who is Zuhrah, who is in the zone of water, and is in the fifth circle of the sphere. She remains in each house twenty-five days, and performs her revolution in ten months. And after her is placed Hermes, who is surnamed Nabo, who is ˁŪṭrādh, and who is also in the zone of water, and is in the sixth circle of the sphere. He remains in each house fifteen days, and performs his course in six months. And after him is placed the Moon, in the zone of water, and in the seventh circle of the sphere. He remains in each house two days and a half, and he performs his course in twenty-nine days and a half. This is the order of their positions.
