Text
Abu’l Faraj Ibn Jauzi, Talbis Iblis (Delusion of the Devil) 5:
The devil has also persuaded some of them (= Sabians) to take the view that perfection lies in procuring relation between them and the upper spiritual beings by the use of purifications, regulations, and invocations. They occupy themselves with astrology and fumigation, and declare that there must necessarily be some intermediary between God and His creation to furnish knowledge and to guide to what is profitable; only such intermediary must be spiritual not corporeal. We, they say, procure for ourselves a holy relation between Him and ourselves, which serves as a means of approaching him. These people do not reject the resurrection of the body.
