Text
Atrahasis Epic (NAV) 4.37-51:
[Enlil] convened his assembly, and said to the gods his sons: “Do not lay contagion upon them (any longer)! [The peo]ples have not dwindled, but have become more numerous than before! I am disturbed [at] their clamor, [at] their uproar sleep cannot overcome me. Cut off provender for the peoples, let plants be scanty in their stomachs. Above, let Adad make scarce his rain, below, let (rainfall) be blocked off and raise no flood from the depths. Let the fields reduce their yields, the grain goddess (= Nisaba) turn aside her bosom, let the black fields whiten, let the broad plain produce salts, let the earth’s womb rebel, let no plants come forth, no grains ripen. Let a malady be laid upon the peoples, that the womb be constricted and give no safe birth to a child.”
