In the first line of the description of Achilles’ shield earth, heaven, and sea correspond to the three Mesopotamian gods Enlil, Anu, and Ea, after whom the three ‘paths’ of the first star catalogue in Mul Apin are named.

Homer, Iliad 18.483:
On it he fashioned the earth, the heaven, and the sea.
